Trailblazer Adventure

Adam had his first Cub Scout day camp. We had such a good time. The whole family went and all three kids got to participate. The first part of the day was bitter cold. Very windy, totally cloudy and extremely cold. The kids were a bit grouchy and so was I. By lunch time the sun had come out and warmed up considerably. We had a really good time after that.

We started out with archery. They went over all the safety rules and then set the kids up to shoot. It looked really fun. I wish I had done it.

After that we did something called Mountain man, and they just taught us about survival in the wilderness. I learned some good things like, if you pee in a hole, the soil will soak up all the ammonia and other chemicals in your urine and then you are left with water to drink. hmmm.

Then we did an obstacle course. Those are always fun. I'm thinking of setting one up in my backyard.

After lunch we went fishing. I think that was the most fun for the kids. Of course we didn't catch anything, we were really just practicing casting out. I don't have any pictures of that because I was busy fishing too. hehe

After the fishing they taught us about knife safety and we practiced whittling with 1/2 bar of soap and a Popsicle stick. That was fun. I might try that again at home with the kids this summer.

Then we went and learned about gun safety and the kids got to shoot BB guns. That was really cool though the guns were sometimes difficult to use for them.

We then practiced throwing tomahawks. I really enjoyed that. Adam would like to own one but I can just see him chopping up the fence or something.

We had such a good time and I think this experience will help get him more excited for scouts. His brother too.

I can't wait to go camping again. I love these kind of adventures up in the mountains.

Sounds like a great day! I'm looking forward to stuff like that with my kids. (Aaron is not... he does not like the outdoors!) =)

Sounds like a fun day! I can't believe they were able to fit all of that into one day.

The kids seemed to really enjoy this. Especially Adam. He couldn't wait to tell me about it and show me how to cast with his fishing pole.
