Sure way...
There's a sure way to get your kids to go to bed. Last night I was out with some friends when my youngest son called me to ask when I would be home. I informed him that I was on my way but if he was not asleep when I got home I was going to beat him silly with a pillow. Of course, when giving threats, it's very important that you make good on them or they will never believe you.
Well, he wasn't asleep when I got home. So I was sure to not go back on my word. I beat him and his brother with a pillow.
I'm sure they will go right to sleep next time I tell them.

Journal Prompt
Every week my youngest has to do these journal prompts for school. I came across this one this morning and I thought it was funny. The prompt was: What are you scared of? His response: I'm scared of my head getting cut off. First, you can die by getting your head cut off. Getting your head cut off can hurt really bad. Next, you wouldn't be able to breathe. If you didn't breathe, you wouldn't live. Last, your brainstem would be cut. You can't live without your brainstem. That's why I scared of getting my head cut off. hee hee

SKIING!!!
In December, we took the kids skiing. The scouting program had a great deal on lift tickets and a number of people from our ward went. J and I are really out of shape and the day started out pretty rough, a lot of tears but it ended up being great! We all had such a good time. The kids did really well. I'm looking forward to going again next year!

She must like hospitals...
In January 2009 Sarah got sick. We thought it was a stomach bug. But it lasted for four or five days and she said her back was really hurting. I just figured her muscles were sore from throwing up. Then her eyes turned yellow. That was when we took her to the Dr. We were sent over to Children's for an ultra sound.
Sarah had gall stones. The were blocking something so her gall bladder and liver were not working right.
She was awfully young to have gall stones but I guess it is hereditary. She has always had terrible belly aches. We never knew why. Honestly, we thought it was just gas. Anyway, she had to have surgery to remove her gall bladder. They told us they could break up the stones but that they would just come back again. Thankfully we live in this wonderful world of technology. Four small incisions and they pulled the gall bladder out of the one through her belly button. The scar is bigger there and doesn't show as much. She missed two weeks of school. The doctor said only a couple of days but they cut through her stomach muscles. Small cuts but none the less painful and you use your stomach muscles for EVERYTHING.
We enjoyed our two day stay at the hospital. Just her and I. She was spoiled by the nurses - and me.
This was her second major surgery in her life. The first one was when she was 5 and she broke her arm. She had to have 3 screws and 4 pins put in.

The last of these
I realize that this event happened 9 months ago but hey... what can I say?
When he was born, I had this strong impression that I would not have him for very long. I don't know if that was just normal mom fears of if there is something to it, but I have always had that thought in the back of my mind. It has caused me to pay more attention and to remember not to take advantage. We should never take advantage of any of our blessings, least of all, our children. We never know what the Lord has in mind for them...
I feel sad seeing my kids grow up so fast. I love them sooooo much. I miss the days when they were little. One day, this little one will go on a mission and I will have a home with no more children...
I wish we could slow down time.
