Damn LDS people!

I'm in Utah visiting with family. We usually spend most of our time with my husband's side of the family.

We were all together on Sunday having a leisurely lunch and chatting when the conversation of LDS people started. John's family was raised in the church but most no longer consider themselves LDS.

So his aunt seems to be a little bitter about the church. When her husband died 30 years ago or so, her brother had a calling in the church that kept him very busy. He was not available for her when she needed him. She holds the LDS church responsible for that.

She was told that because she owned a bar, her daughter could not be baptized when she turned eight. She holds the LDS church responsible for that.

Her grandson did not receive some badges he earned when he was in boy scouts. She holds the LDS church is responsible for that.

In her old neighborhood, the neighbor kids told her kids that their parents were glad that their dad died because he was a smoker. She holds the LDS church responsible for that.

The people make up the religion, therefore the LDS church is responsible for everything that the members do.

There was so much more to the conversation but I can't remember or write it all.

When all was said and done I told her that I loved her even though she was not a Mormon and she was going to hell because of it.

She said that she would see me there.

HAHA - she's probably right

It seems to be so easy to hold the church as a whole responsible for the actions of its members. Too bad your relative has taken that route... but I'm glad you were able to say you love her even if she's going to hell for being a pagan unbeliever. ;)

My mom would so get along with her! (What's funny is I dated a certain someone whom my mom did NOT like -ahem- I will not name names- but she blames him and every other loser I dated on the church. LOL)

I bet we could create a whole book of bizarre things people have blamed on the church...and it would be funny to those of us who understand personal responsibility =) My grandma once told me she would just have to love me here on Earth because she wouldn't be seeing me in Heaven (seeing as how I was Mormon not and, therefore, going to hell) and I SO WANTED to say "That's okay Nonnie, you aren't going to like it anyway because there will be Ethnic people there!" =) I didn't say it though he he he

I think what my mom was saying is that the LDS church talks about them being so saint and they are all going to heaven why the rest of us go to Hell!! The people has treated us so unkind so they are not so saint!! Jesus didn't treat people unkind, he opened his arms in comfort. And to teach them not to tell them that they where going to hell! I know we are all Gods Children and it doesn't take a religion to teach us that! Melissa I'm sorry that it happened I wasn't thrilled when I walked in and heard the conversion that was going on and that's why I stayed outside. I hope it doesn't keep you a way. We all know we aren't perfect. And it shouldn't be the religion that we see in eachother but we are all family and should love eachother for who we are!!!!
